This is a great restaurant. I didn't eat Chinese anymore due to MSG and bad experiences. Now I am the biggest fan of Brenda, her two sisters and her brother. What a team and what a great place they run! I love Hope Key, don't believe any negative reviews, for as far as I am concerned it is the best I've eaten in Victoria! Brenda only uses fresh vegetables, not frozen and it is all so delicious. Brenda is the hostess/owner who is so warm and welcoming, she even put the cream and sugar in my 86 yr old mum's tea for her...my mum was duly impressed. Where would you ever get a waitress who did that? she asked me.

I am surprised by these reviews granting 5 stars. The service is great but the food is strictly subpar. This place is for you if you like chow mein that tastes like it is a week old. The 'chicken' in the dish ressembles tofu. Eat there at your own risk.

Best Kept Secret Chinese Food place in Victoria.
Hidden next to a dollar store, and behind a bus stop. Inside it has brick walls and twenty foot ceiling. Benches have cushions and are comfy.
No MSG. They try to use local and in season veggies. Nice clean oil for tempura. Portions are ample, prices pretty cheap. Tasty dinner dishes, with no Chinese food overload aftertaste. Some lunch combos are a bit low scale.
The owners are fun, up and personable. Service is fast, dishes are well presented, food is hot.

Portions are bound to quench your hunger. Teriyaki beef was so juicy and tender, my mouth waters for it. Tempura yams delish! I've never been to a restaurant where the owner actually comes and converses with the clients and gets to know them. The table next to us had dungenous crab which looked amazing.

What a great find... It really seems un-restaurant like from the exterior (more like a take out bubble-tea place), but the interior has a charming & fun ambiance with rustic brick walls with Asian decor.

Fabulous food and fast friendly service to boot. We'll definitely be going back and taking co-workers with us.
We had the special with Prawns, Chicken and Duck. It came with a nice mix of veggies served over rice, noodles, or both. I'd highly reccomend this restuarant and the dish.
